History

Westfalia Separator was founded in 1893 in Oelde, Germany. The first product manufactured was a hand-cranked separator used to separate cream from milk on the farm. From this humble beginning a worldwide company has grown to offer a wide range of products based on the principals of mechanical separation, serving thousands of diverse applications.

 

In 1994 Westfalia Separator became a member of the GEA Group AG, headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, and was renamed GEA Westfalia Separator. The GEA Group is a large international manufacturing company that focuses on process technology and components. The company, through its wide ranging subsidiary organizations, is committed to marshalling its extensive resources and impressive R&D capabilities to meet the challenges facing our world today and in the future to:

  • Feed a growing world population
  • Improve medical care
  • Generate and use energy more efficiently
  • Use raw materials in a more sustainable way
  • Protect the environment.

 The Mechanical Equipment segment of the GEA Group consists of three interrelated companies, each of which offers a separate line of products:

GEA Tuchenhagen – flow controls

GEA Niro Soavi – homogenizers

 

Products and Technologies

GEA Westfalia Separator manufactures an extensive array of dynamic filtration and separation products as well as complete process lines. The product line ranges from the smallest of tabletop machines for use in laboratories, to the world’s largest separators with throughput capacities of up to 60,000 liters or 15,850 gallons per hour. Our separators, clarifiers, decanters and process lines are used for a variety of purposes including but not limited to:

  • Clarifying suspensions
  • Separating liquids with removal of solids
  • Separating liquid mixtures of differing densities or viscosities
  • Extracting of active substances
  • Classifying substances
  • Concentrating and dewatering of solids.
